AL I. FREDERICK, ESQ. has spent his career practicing law throughout the state of Maryland. His practice has focused on the representation of judges and lawyers civilly and with regard to discipline. He has, in addition, defended a variety of other licensed professionals in malpractice actions. Mr. Frederick has handled a number of groundbreaking cases in Maryland’s appellate courts crafting the current law on legal malpractice and the defense of judges before the Commission on Judicial Disabilities. In addition, he has presented risk management programs on behalf of the Court of Appeals (now the Supreme Court) on professionalism and risk management. He has taught on behalf of both the Judicial Institute of Maryland and the Judicial College of Maryland and has been a presenter at the annual Judicial meeting of the Maryland judiciary. Mr. Frederick regularly speaks and writes on the issues of professional risk management and claims avoidance locally and has spoken nationally on the subject for the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Malpractice and PLUS (Professional Liability Underwriting Society). Mr. Frederick has been recognized as a top professional in his field. He is a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, limiting its membership to no more than 1% of lawyers in the State of Maryland. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers, amongst others, as highly regarded in the field of professional negligence defense and has written and published extensively on the subject. He is AV-rated by Martindale Hubbell. The Maryland Bar Foundation awarded the prestigious H. Vernon Eney award to him in 2024. Mr. Frederick has served various Bar Associations throughout Maryland, having presented on behalf of associations in Washington County, Frederick County, Montgomery County, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Howard County, Prince Georges County, Wicomico County, and Talbot County) amongst others. He has served as Chair of the Professional Ethics Committee of the Bar Association of Baltimore City, Chair of the Litigation Section of the Maryland State Bar Association and was recognized by that group as Litigator of the Year in 2013. Frederick spent ten years as a member of the prestigious Standing Committee on Rules and Procedure of the Supreme Court of Maryland per appointment by that Court. He chaired the Judges and Attorneys Subcommittee during his tenure. He was also privileged to be a member of the Rodowsky Commission which presented and suggested ethical rules to the then Court of Appeals in accord with the Ethics 2000 undertaking of the American Bar Association. He has also worked with prominent companies such as HomeAdvisor, Bowers & Wilkins, AOL, and Accenture. He remains highly active in the UK and US startup ecosystem, serving as President Emeritus of the Harvard Business School Alumni Angels of the UK and advising various venture capital firms. Simon holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Computing and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.
